HOT DAY IN GLASGOW

Writing this in Glasgow on a sweltering day and looking forward to getting out of the city. I don not like v hot weather and always feel I am short of clothes suitable for sitting in the front of a coach on a scorcher - not that there are that many.
Global warming, eh? No point in tour guides moaning about it - the whole travel business relies on carbon emissions, from trains and planes and buses and boats. we are constantly on the move, always organising excursions which create more and more emissions, moving on and producing more laundry, turning on the air conditioning in order to cool our passnegers down to counteract the effect of the heat caused by their (our) travelling. The vicious circle continues and, although I try to reuse towels, cut down on personal car journeys, go by train rather than plane, whenever possible, I am well aware that I am in asn industry that could not survive without carbon emissions.
Maybe I will eventually be able to lead a low carbon life - but not while I have to make a living. Anyway must go now, I have another excursion to run. Still need to make a living ...

BRITAIN AND IRELAND STUDY PROGRAMME

It should of course have been Britain and ireland Study programme not British Isles Study Programme. The Irish do not like British Isleds as it suggests that Ireland is British, which may be the case for some unionists in the north, but is untrue for most southern Irish.
I am starting to envisage this course - a one week intensive study giving tips on running a long tour with four sessions a day - first would be practical: how to selll optionals, organise seat rotation, get along with people, deal with complaints, etc; second would be historical - Shakespeare, Burns, Henry VIII, etc; third would be geographical - routes, timings, landmarks, stops; fourth would be contemporary and cultural (in widest sense) - Beatles, taxes, house prices, sport, etc.
If twenty people are prepared to pay £100 each (profit form one decent optional) then I should be able to run the course, probably at Effra Chapel hall. Take the plunge.

Final proofs of The Guide Book on the way with new cover - should go topress while I am back to backing in Ireland and Scotland and be available for sale August/September if all goes well...
